A classic since 1975, Chicago captivated audiences across the country. This week, Chicago: Teen Edition comes to Broomfield with the Legacy High School Thespians.
Set in the Roaring Twenties, this production follows chorus girl Roxie Hart as she aims to become a theatrical star. When she murders her lover after he breaks their affair, Roxie falls in jail. Although seemingly an end to her stardom dreams, her sentence boosts her to every news station in Chicago. Meanwhile, she forms an unlikely alliance with Velma Kelly, an established star and another prisoner who murdered her husband and sister.
At the start of rehearsals, there wasn’t an official gun yet, so they used a plastic water gun. It is still backstage.

The 90-minute performance consists of numerous cast, crew, and pit who worked since January to bring this script to life. Of the seven scenes and 31 songs, actor Samarah Ziady specifically adores the scene Cell Block Tango. She remarks, “This scene involves pretty much every cast member in some way, whether it’s moving a dead body off the stage or being in the separate memories of each murderess.”
Junior Sabrina Sheppard is one of the runners for the production. Sheppard explains that everyone worked extremely hard; “The songs and dances are worth seeing!”
None of it could be possible without the stage crew, pit, as well as our amazing directors and choreographers.
