What is the Best Halloween Movie to Watch During October?

Is Halloween the time for horror movies or nostalgic fall movies?
What is the Best Halloween Movie to Watch During October?

A question that haunts the dreams of horror-movie lovers: what is the best Halloween/horror movie to watch during October?

October is the month for carrying on traditions such as trick-or-treating as well as indulging in spooky movies to match the vibrant leaves and chilly weather. But which movie best sets the tone for this creepy month? We wanted to hear from you! Posted around the hallways for the past couple of weeks was a QR code to a survey asking the people of Legacy High School about their favorite October movie. The survey included various scary movies for horror lovers as well as some classic Halloween movies. With over 100 options (including a write-in option), the people have spoken and the winner is: Coraline!!!

Coraline won first place with 25% of participants, while The Nightmare Before Christmas and the Twilight Zone tied for second place. Other notable mentions are the Scooby-Doo franchise and Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

For those who don’t know, Coraline is about a young girl who moves into an old, pink townhouse with her two parents. After some exploration, Coraline runs into many mysterious people and clues, including a doll clone of her. As the movie progresses, Coraline follows clues and secret doors into a world in which she has everything she could ever want, or does she? This psychological movie is the perfect mystery filled with twists and turns that keep the viewer intrigued.

Coupled with the vibrant colors and intricate characters, Coraline is the perfect spooky movie to set the scene for a fun October and Halloween! This movie is a stop-motion animation picture, which means that the characters and setting are made of clay and other materials such as felt and fabric. For each shot throughout the movie, a person had to position the characters perfectly, and then take a photo using a digital camera. This process allows for each shot to be perfect, though it takes a very long time to complete. For instance, it took nearly four years for Coraline to turn from clay to film. When all of the photos taken are put together and the dialogue from the voice actors is put in, the tremendous amount of effort brings the story of Coraline to life.

So as October ends and winter begins to seep into Colorado, make sure to celebrate the spooky season by watching the wonderful Coraline!!!

This excellent synopsis of the animation film Coraline is so interesting, especially the detail concerning the effort that went into its creation, that I want to see it, even though animation films are not normally my thing.
