You’ve seen the posters.
From February 4th through 11th, the Newspaper Club is hosting a book drive to expand Legacy’s special education library collection! Bring new or slightly used pre-reader to 4th-grade books to your first-period class or library for points. The class with the most points wins donuts!
All extras will go to Reach Out and Read Colorado, a wonderful organization that works with medical providers to encourage families about the importance of healthy literacy at a young age. Their program, endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, will send books to waiting rooms for children to read and take home. Read more about their evidence-based approach here.
Get your books ready and we’ll start competing on Tuesday!
UPDATE 2/11:
Today was the last day of the book drive! We have more than 600 books and major changes to the podium! We’ll announce the winners soon, so please be patient with us as we continue tallying points.
If your class has any remaining books, please let us know at [email protected] so we can pick them up. You might still have a chance for first place!
Again, thank you for all your donations. We couldn’t have done it without you, Boltz!
UPDATE 2/13:
The book drive results are in! Thank you to everyone who donated and supported our drive.
In third place is Ms. Schaad’s class with 510 points. In second place is Ms. Blyth’s class with 1220 points. And in first place is Ms. Nein & Stern’s first-period class with a whopping 1315 points! You’ll be receiving food tomorrow!
We want to thank everyone who helped run the drive, including Ms. Stephens, Legacy’s nutrition specialists, and Legacy’s custodians. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Happy reading, Boltz!
