High school is not like the movies. There is drama and the occasional fight, along with the school dance, and there will always be those kids who think they are better than everyone or those you see in the hallway and question what is going on in their minds to act like that.
But is it like middle school? The amount of drama and daring stories I have heard about repeating names, that I will not name, is astonishing. There is always that one group of people the whole school magically knows. How is that possible? And how is it possible that every guy and girl has dated every guy and girl in that social circle?
Is high school the teenage version of middle school?
We see them in the halls walking in big groups, we see them at their own lunch table, we see them walking to Kings in their pack of people. The so-called “popular” group. They are our points of drama; they are the main source of drama that we need to fill this void of high school. Hearing declarations of “Did you hear that so-and-so broke up with so-and-so,” when did we let boys and girls control our lives? We are so focused on relationships and other relationships that we lose sight of why we have them in the first place. But I would be lying if I said it didn’t entertain me to hear someone else’s relationship problems.
Is that also one of our problems? Are we more consumed with other couples than ours? Or is it the other way around? Are we too consumed by ourselves and getting ahead that we leave people we care about in the dust, making the climb to the top out of their broken hearts?
However, we are too busy trying to fit into one social circle instead of thinking about how others should fit into our lives. Too many people are swayed by the need to fit in we have separated ourselves while trying to bring us together. Why is it so hard for us to be ourselves? If you look at every group besides the popular ones, you can actually differentiate people. There is no single person who looks the same in any group, so why try so hard to look like someone else? Everyone is perfect, everyone is beautiful, everyone is smart, everyone has their attributes.
Why are we trying to fit into a mold that no one made?
