Teacher Travels

“The most interesting experience that I’ve ever had was in Romania.  We have a cabin in a small, traditional village in Romania. We have a good relationship with the family down the hill from us.  They are traditional, family farmers who, at that point, still worked the land very much as one would have done 100 years ago, or even in the middle ages.  They let the meadows grow long, then cut them down by hand with a scythe, use their horse to pull a wooden cart out to the fields, load the hay on the cart with pitchforks, bring it back, then stow it in their hay barn with pitchforks.  The most interesting experience I’ve ever had was probably when I sat in the barnyard of this farm, on a stool made of a stump, with the sun setting over the mountains and chickens running around, and chatted, in his own language, with this farmer from another time.  It was as close to a trip back in time as I can imagine being real.” – Mr. Hubbard
